I’m an occupational therapist participating in a research project to learn more about the use of web 2 tools for occupational therapists. Many (many, many!) years ago I took a paper with the same lecturer about the use of the Internet in occupational therapy. I remember having the same feelings of newness and how strange and foreign it all seemed. I know though that in a few weeks I’ll wonder how I got by for so long without this stuff.
Yesterday I showed a colleague some of what we’ve looked at so far, and it was funny how impressed she was – she really thought I knew what I was talking about! Strange how quickly some of this stuff becomes natural I guess!
Happy searching

I had forgotten that we were in a class together a long time ago! What we did then was very innovative… and this project is pretty innovative again for our profession! I’m sure the feeling of being in a foreign land will disappear as we get more into it…. I wonder though if these feelings are related just to technology – or if you would feel similar for any new learning experience?
Pleased to hear that you are sharing what you have learnt already – it seems to me the only way we can get more out of Web 2.0 is if more of us are aware of what is there, and what we can do! What do you think?
Definitely the technology thing!!! Way out of my comfort zone! But as you say, the only way to get more out of it is to share with others and make it seem more “everyday” and less foreign.
I wonder why we fell comfortable with lots of aspects of what we do but technology can really ‘frighten’ people. after all a car is a piece of technology but we don’t worry about what we can break by driving – we learn to drive…do we worry about what’s under the bonnet??
It will be interesting to see at the end if you feel like the web has become more ‘everyday’?
I think for me the technology thing is easier for folk who like to fiddle and try things until they work; and teh process of doing so is motivating. I find I am not of that ilk – if at the first fiddle (or click of the mouse) I cannot access what I want I find it harder to keep going or I end up doing something way out – like teh day I inverting the monitor screen – and had to read all my emails upside down!!!!
Hey Siobhan – how do you invert your screen – I’m well impressed!
